ALBERTON will see even more Indigenous footballers than usual at training this Friday.

The Maralinga Tjarutja Lands football team which will compete in this Saturday’s Indigenous Lands Challenge Cup against the APY Lands will visit Alberton tomorrow in conjunction with Port Adelaide training.

The Maralinga Lands team – made up of players from the Oak Valley Community and Yalata – will have a tour of the Power facility, watch training, then meet players from the club and have lunch with Gavin Wanganeen.

The Power is looking after the Marlinga team as part of an AFL Fostership Program, which also includes Ceduna.

The Indigenous Lands Challenge Cup match between the Maralinga Lands and the APY Lands will be played ahead of the Crows v Carlton match at AAMI Stadium on Saturday, from 12.05pm.

After that match a combined APY Lands-Maralinga Lands team will be selected. The team will remain in Adelaide during the week, and then travel to Melbourne to play against a Yuendumu team from the Northern Territory on the MCG ahead of the Power’s twilight clash with Collingwood on Sunday 31 May.

The combined APY Lands-Maralinga team will wear the Power’s away strip for the clash.
