Tarrant, who re-joined his old club Collingwood during the recent trade period, had plenty to do with Scott during his four years at Fremantle.
And the forward-turned-defender has no doubt the Cats' new man has all the attributes to be a success.
"He was the back line coach at Fremantle and I was lucky enough to be a part of that; he's going to be a fantastic coach," Tarrant said on Wednesday.
"He's so cool and so calm and he's very well educated in his football knowledge.
"I think it's a great fit for Geelong and he's one of those guys that you really will go out and play for. I'm sure he'll get those guys up and firing."
Scott was appointed earlier this week after a three-week search to replace dual premiership coach Mark Thompson.
The Fremantle assistant helped revive Tarrant's career, with Scott part of a decision to send the forward to the other end of the ground where he has since shone, and the 30-year-old admitting he had exceeded his own expectations in his new role.
"It was a group idea, it wasn't anyone's sole idea," Tarrant said.
"But yeah, Chris Scott played a major role in how I went about my last two years and was really influential in how I went about my career."
Now back in Victoria, Tarrant is hell bent on proving himself to his teammates.
While realising it won't be easy breaking into a premiership team, he is confident he has the ability.
"I'm jumping out of my skin," he said.
"These guys are probably still in holiday mode [but] I can't wait to get back into it.
"Since I've been lucky enough to get back, I've been back in training every second day or so, and I'm feeling really confident working with David Buttifant, who I've got great respect for and I'm sure he can get me up to full fitness."
