Significant progress is being made on the next stage of development at the Western Bulldogs community hub of the west, Whitten Oval.

The Club Community Sports Hall (CCSH) 4-court indoor basketball/netball/soccer complex frame has been completed and construction is on target for completion by June 2011.

Available for both school-based programs during the day and night programs, the CCSH is already attracting a variety of interest from primary & secondary schools and community organisations.

Much-needed in Melbourne’s inner west, the CCSH is being constructed in accordance with international standards and will be a state-of-the art stadium on completion.

According to the Club’s Chief Executive, Simon Garlick, the new Club Community Sports Hall will provide indoor sports capabilities for over 3,800 children and adults every week of the year - some 200,000 people throughout the year.

“Whether it is basketball, netball, indoor soccer, futsal, volleyball or as an alternate training venue for our team, the CCSH will cater for a range of sports for every age group in a modern facility at Whitten Oval ideally located for the western region.  In essence, it will become the venue for all ages to gather and play sports for competition or fun,” Garlick said.

Partially funded through Australian Government Jobs Fund - Get Communities Working grant of $1.2 million, the sports hall was brought forward in time-frame and has employed a variety of personnel and tradespeople across a diverse range of occupations from land surveyors, architects, riggers, steel manufacturers, plumbers as well as a number of community development staff aimed at maximising occupancy of the Sports Hall.

Importantly, the Sports Hall will ensure that we provide the best possible opportunity to keep our community active but will, through a complete water recycling/recapture process on the roof, will help maintain Whitten Oval as a wonderful playing surface for our Club.
