FREMANTLE has received a timely boost, with exciting forward Chris Mayne signing on until the end of 2010.

Mayne, 19, has missed the last three weeks with a calf strain, but his passion for the club is infectious and he is desperate to get back out there to help his teammates rise from 14th position on the ladder.

Mayne returned in the WAFL for Perth on Saturday to help the Demons beat Claremont and is hoping to return for Fremantle this Sunday against the Western Bulldogs.

"I love coming here every day. I wake up in the morning so excited to come to Fremantle and all the guys here make me feel so welcome it's like being part of a family," Mayne said.

“This is my second family and coming here every day to train and trying to make sure that we can all get on the park is the best feeling in the world.

"It has been frustrating not being out there with the guys and being able to do my part to make sure we win. I've been pulling my hair out, but I've always been looking forward to the week after when I can play with them again."

Freo also recently signed Rhys Palmer and Clayton Hinkley until the end of 2010, and Mayne was never worried about missing out on an extension to his two-year contract.

"It was very exciting to hear that they wanted to put me on for another year and as soon as my manager told me the information I was keen as mustard to sign up," he said.

"When I first got picked up I never really thought about the fact that I was signed for two years, I just thought about week in and week out trying to play senior football. Being spoken to about a third year just gives you a feeling that you are wanted at the club, which is exciting and I look forward to what the future holds."

Fremantle will be missing Des Headland on Sunday, who will undergo knee surgery and miss between six and eight weeks.

The forward line could also receive a shake up with Mayne’s likely return alongside Adam Campbell, who booted 10 goals for West Perth in the WAFL against Peel. Robert Warnock also impressed in the same game in the ruck.

Mark Johnson was also terrific for Perth, but he could be facing time on the sidelines after being reported for making forceful front on contact on Claremont forward David Crawford.
