This week, the Geelong Cats opened their doors to 130 grade 6 students from 9 different primary schools in Geelong’s northern suburbs.

The programme involves footy heroes interacting with the kids to encourage healthy eating, having a ‘you can do it’ attitude and most importantly having lots of fun. Students spent time in the players change rooms, learnt about diet and nutrition, tried on players match day gear, kicked for goal on Skilled Stadium and finished with an insight into the history of the Cats.

Fifteen Cats players hosted the students including - Brad Ottens, Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Corey Enright, Cameron Mooney, Max Rooke, Gary Ablett and Mark Blake.

Primary schools in attendance included Bell Park North Primary, St Thomas Aquinas, Corio West Primary, Lara Lake Primary, Nelson Park Primary, Norlane West Primary, St Anthony’s Primary, St Francis Xavier, and Corio South Primary.

“These kids are just so excited to be here and it’s terriific for us to introduce them to Skilled Stadium and to give them a brief glimpse into our world. It doesn’t take much to bring a smile to their face, a kick of the footy out on Skilled Stadium will usually do it!” said Brad Ottens.

The Shell Cats Heroes Series has hosted more than 1000 primay schools from Geelong’s northern suburbs since it began in 2005.
