The Melbourne Football Club has secured another two of its youngest players, with Jack Grimes and Stefan Martin committing to the Club for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

Grimes, selected with the 14th pick overall in the 2007 AFL National Draft, has impressed this season.  He has played eleven games across half back, and was nominated for a NAB Rising Star nomination following his 29 possession performance in Round 14.

Tim Harrington, General Manger of List Management, said, “Jack has shown maturity beyond his years with the football and leadership he has displayed since arriving at the Club. He is only a 12 game player, but he plays the game like a 50 game player, and we think he can go on to play a major role for the Melbourne Football Club in the future.”

Martin, who came to the Club after having played basketball for Australia at junior levels, was recruited from the Sandringham Zebras with the third pick overall in the 2008 AFL Pre-Season Draft.  Since that time, he has become one of the Club’s most versatile players, being used as a key defender, key forward and in the ruck.

Harrington said of Martin, “Stef is still developing as a player, but his potential for improvement is high. He is a taller type, and can play in multiple positions, which is a real strength.  He has now played 26 games after debuting last year, and his continual progress is exciting for the Club.”

The news follows last week's re-signing of Cale Morton, who has also committed to the Club for another two years.
