Season Online Reserved Seat On-Sale

The online Ticketmaster system experienced a critical error on Saturday morning at 9.30am, which resulted in AFL Members experiencing significant delays and error messages during the onsale after this time. Up until 9.30am, 1,905 tickets had been purchased for MCG games (700 for ANZAC Day) and 1,956 tickets had been purchased for Telstra Dome games.

Ticketmaster advised that work was conducted on their system all of Saturday and into the early hours of Sunday morning to repair the error that occurred. AFL Members events were once again made available to purchase from 9am, Sunday 24th February.

The error was due to changes that were made to the Ticketmaster barcode retirement program ‘BART’ throughout the off-season in conjunction with the high demand for purchases on the online system. The AFL was assured that these changes would not affect the online purchasing process. The AFL has lodged a complaint and clearly articulated our concerns with Ticketmaster management regarding the error that occurred. It is unacceptable that AFL Members have been subjected to significant inconvenience with regard to this on-sale process.

We understand that AFL Members who attempted to purchase via the online sale on Saturday morning were inconvenienced by this error and as a result have extended the closing date for the season reserved seat on-sale to 5pm, Tuesday 26th February.

For AFL Members wishing to purchase reserved seating for any month throughout the home and away season, there are seats available for all MCG matches as well as Level 1 seating for the following Telstra Dome games (seating available as at 8am, Monday 25th February):

Once the tickets allocated to the season reserved seat on-sale have been exhausted, AFL Members will only be able to purchase for specific matches on the first Saturday of the month in the month prior to the match.

The AFL apologises that the on-line season reserved seat sale was compromised in 2008. Our review of this process for future years will assess whether the demand for this type of sale is warranted and whether it can be executed flawlessly without inconveniencing those who wish to use it.
