Lions midfielder Richard Hadley will make his long-awaited return to the Gabba on Saturday afternoon when the Suncoast Lions tackle Mt. Gravatt is an AFLQ practice match on Saturday.

The curtain raiser to the Brisbane Lions' season opener will begin at 3:20pm and is certain to generate plenty of interest with Lions members and supporters.

Hadley will play his first match since undergoing his second consecutive knee injury this time last year. It has been just over 12 months since the recurrence of his knee injury and Hadley has received the all-clear. He is expected to play the bulk of Suncoast Lions matches in the early parts of the season before any consideration of selecting him in the senior team.

The last time Hadley played a senior match for the Brisbane Lions was in the 2004 Grand Final which the Lions lost to Port Adelaide.

Hadley will be joined by a number of Brisbane Lions team mates in the reserves practice match. Draftees Albert Proud, Chris Schmidt, James Hawksley, Sam Sheldon and Matt Tyler are all expected to play as are rookies Will Hamill, Daniel Dzufer and Scott Clouston.

It will be an important hit-out for the Suncoast Lions who will play Mt. Gravatt in the opening round of the AFLQ season on Saturday 14 April.
