Leppitsch left Brisbane late last year after 17 seasons, to take on the role as Richmond’s defensive coach.

He played in three Brisbane premiership sides, alongside current Lions’ senior coach Michael Voss and development coach Craig McRae.
When he retired from playing in 2006, Leppitsch became an assistant coach at Brisbane, with his prime responsibility being the team’s backline.
“I’ve sat with ‘Vossy’ in the coaching box, so I’ve got an idea what he’s going to do. I’m sure he’s changed a few things over the summer, though,” Leppitsch said.
“Their personnel has changed significantly . . . some of the players I don’t know, but the majority I’ve been able to help Damien with.”
Leppitsch is looking forward to returning to this weekend’s return to Brisbane, where he played 227 games in a stellar career from 1993-06, including those three premierships, along with the club’s 1999 Best and Fairest award (equal winner) and triple All-Australian honors.
“Being in the opposition coaches’ box and rooms will be a bit different, but I’m used to being in Melbourne now. I’m loving the Club and it’s been a really good ride,” he said.
“I had a good time up there, but I’m really enjoying my time at the Tigers.”
Richmond, which completed its main training session of the week, today at Victoria Park, is aiming for back-to-back wins for the first time this year.
“We’re just looking to go up there and give a good show. It’s their home ground and they’ve got really good form up there, so we’ll just have to give our best,” Leppitsch said.
