WESTERN Bulldog Koby Stevens could play this round after scans revealed he suffered no more than a bruised lung against Gold Coast in Cairns.

Stevens was substituted out of Saturday's game in the second quarter after copping a heavy knock to the ribs, and was taken to hospital for assessment soon afterwards.

Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said after the match that Stevens had suffered a bruised lung but the full extent of his injury would not be known until he had scans.

A Bulldogs spokesman told AFL.com.au on Monday that scans had cleared Stevens of broken ribs or a punctured lung.

The 24-year-old midfielder was able to fly back to Melbourne with the rest of the Bulldogs team on Sunday and will be monitored closely this week ahead of the Geelong clash at Simonds Stadium on Saturday. 

North Melbourne vice-captain Jack Ziebell played the week after suffering a bruised lung against Port Adelaide in round three this year.

Ziebell spent a night in hospital after copping a heavy knock in a marking contest with Power midfielder Ollie Wines, but rebounded to have 20 possessions and eight tackles against Geelong seven days later.
