Scott Pendlebury and Danny Stanley are our two very special guests on the Septopia week two edition of Magpie Radio’s The Squawk.
Pendlebury, the AFL Rising Star runner-up and Collingwood’s leading possession winner with 24 in Saturday night’s elimination final victory over the Swans, says it’s great to have performed well, both on a team and personal level, on such an important occasion.
“You get judged pretty harshly in finals football, they say that’s when the greats come out to play,” Pendlebury tells.
“It was a very good team performance and looking forward to this week.”
The 19-year-old emerging midfield star, who doesn’t seem to get fazed by anything on the field, emphasised that playing in front of big crowds so often definitely helps young Magpies like himself cope with finals football.
“I don’t really get too nervous before anything, really. I’m not really a nervous person, so the lead up was pretty normal.
“We’ve played in front of a few big crowds this year, and I suppose that was obviously an advantage, so I wasn’t really nervous at all.”
Stanley, meanwhile, was one of Williamstown’s best in their stunning two-point VFL qualifying final triumph over triple-reigning premier Sandringham a fortnight ago, and will again be a key player when the Seagulls meet Coburg on Sunday for a place in the grand final.
“It’s a big achievement for Willy. We made it to the same place last year, Scott and I played in the prelim. Unfortunately we got knocked out by Geelong, so hopefully this time we can go one better and make the grand final, " says Stanley.
