Geelong coach Chris Scott has explained the Cats decision to send star midfielder Joel Selwood to Western Australia to train.

Answering a question on the popular TWEET THE COACH, Scott said there was nothing surprising in the decision for Selwood to visit his brothers who play for the Eagles.

“In simple terms, Joel is out of the game,” he said.

“He’s got four weeks where he isn’t playing, and that is effectively five weeks of training. He’s worked really hard to this point so it’s an opportunity to send him to Perth. Two of his brothers live in Perth and the Eagles have the bye. It is a chance to get away from the daily grind and take a mental break.”

Travis Varcoe also made the trip west with Selwood.

Scott also answered a question from star golfer Aaron Baddeley and others including:

  • How the approach differed with so many young players in the team last week
  • The transition to the young players
  • Whether Chris saw a 13-0 start to the year when he tok over
  • His views on recruiting guru Stephen Wells
  • His opinion on the advantage rule?
  • Dan Menzel injury update
  • How he will use Scarlett and Taylor against Essendon
  • The evolving forward line structure
