Dane Swan spoke to CTV in the rooms after being one of Collingwood's best in the 18-point loss to Port Adelaide.

Playing mainly across half forward, the 23-year-old contributed 21 possessions, five tackles and two goals, both in the opening minutes of the third term when the Magpies opened up a 15-point break.

While disappointed with the result, Swan said the focus has quickly shifted to ANZAC Day.

“It was a bit disappointing the loss, we were pretty good for three quarters, then we just fell away in the last quarter,” Swan said.

“But the good thing about it is we’ve only got four days till ANZAC Day, so we’ll lick our wounds tonight, and tomorrow we’ll focus on Essendon.

“You never like to wait around after a loss, so the quicker you can get out there and make amends for what we did today the better so now everyone’s just looking forward to Essendon.”

Both Collingwood and Essendon will have just four days to recover from their round four contests for their annual battle on April 25.

After a stellar 2006 season, Swan has continued to be one of the Magpies’ most important contributors in 2007, having played everywhere from deep in defence, to the midfield, through to a pinch-hitting forward.

He was close to best on the ground in the round three triumph over the Tigers, and again against Port was one of his side’s better players.

His versatility and reliability are two factors that make him one player in particular the senior coach can call upon to perform a specific role, and do it well just about every time.

“Mick (Malthouse) has thrown me in a few roles this year, it’s just good to be out there playing and hopefully contributing to the side so I’m not really fussed where I play.

“My preferred position is probably on the ball or on the wing, but if Mick wants to play me down back or use me up forward, I’m quite happy to do so.”
