ADELAIDE’S Graham Johncock, Port Adelaide’s Michael Pettigrew and North Melbourne’s Corey Jones are the round two nominations for the 2008 AFL Army Award.

And  St Kilda’s Clinton Jones is the round one winner, receiving 68 per cent of the public’s votes for his courageous marking attempt while running with the flight of the ball against the Swans.

Johncock’s nomination is for his great bump in the first quarter that allowed Andrew McLeod to run forward. Pettigrew left his opponent and applied a gutsy diving spoil in front of Barry Hall, while Jones showed wonderful courage attempting to mark while running with the flight of the ball.

The AFL Army Award recognises match day acts which demonstrate courage, initiative and teamwork.

The award aims to reward the “one percenter” acts such as game-breaking smothers, tackles and shepherds. Following each round, the three most influential acts are posted on afl.com.au and fans can log on and vote to determine the best act.

At the end of the home and away season, the AFL All-Australian Selection Committee will shortlist the 22 weekly winning acts to six nominations which will then be voted on by the public through afl.com.au. The All-Australian selection committee will then endorse the winner.

The 2008 AFL Army Award winner will receive a $10,000 travel voucher, trophy and Army Experience. The award will be officially presented at the 2008 Coca-Cola All-Australian presentation dinner.

The 2007 AFL Army Award winner was Essendon’s Alwyn Davey. Davey secured the award for his outstanding play against Hawthorn in round six last year.
