HARD-working midfielder Brent Moloney hopes his second taste in the Melbourne leadership group brings him a little more on-field luck than his last one.
Moloney, one of the six-man team announced by the Demons on Friday, said he’d been voted into the prestigious group midway through last season but had injured himself after just one match.
After getting the nod, the prodigious kick injured his shoulder against Collingwood and didn’t play again for the remainder of 2008.
"It was good for me [to be part of the leadership group] because I went to all the meetings and I got to know what it was all about," Moloney said.
"It was a really good start and now this year I know what it’s all about and know what to expect."
He joins captain James McDonald, vice-captain Cameron Bruce, Brad Green, Brad Miller and Brock McLean in the group.
"I came into it halfway through last year but just because I did that it doesn’t guarantee you a spot in it the following year," Moloney said.
"So this will hopefully be my first full year, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.
"We see ourselves as a pretty strong leadership group.
"We try to set the right example on and off the field. We’ve got a pretty young group."
All players nominated five teammates on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with Moloney earning the respect of his peers.
"Everyone had to stand up and read out who they chose, their top five players who they thought should be in the leadership group," Moloney said.
"I was lucky enough to get voted in, so it’s an exciting time and I’m looking forward to it."
