MELBOURNE must find a way to curb the brilliance of Hawthorn's Lance Franklin on Friday night if the Demons are to score their first win of the season and AFL.com.au's Matthew Richardson takes a look at how they might do that in his weekly video review.
Using exclusive iso-camera vision, Richardson analysed Franklin's five-goal performance against St Kilda, and came up with a few tips for Dees full-back James Frawley, who will likely get the big job on Buddy.
"I think you have to keep him in your vision [at all times] - you must keep him in front of you," Richardson says.
"Once he gets goal side of you it is absolutely goodnight.
"The other thing they must do is double and triple team him in the air. He's not a huge pack mark, but he can't be left one on one. They're going to need help for Frawley so Jack Grimes or Colin Garland will be the ones to come third man in."
Richardson looks at Franklin's marking, mobility, goalkicking and his tendency to give away free kicks.
While he says that is a frustrating aspect of his game, the positives far outweigh the negatives for Richardson, who admits Buddy is his favourite player.
"There's no doubt that for a man of his size - 196cm and 102kg - his mobility and running ability aerobically is the best in the competition," Richardson says.
"Once the ball hits the ground he is as dangerous as the next player and for a man of his size that is unbelievable.
"He runs [opponents] up the ground, gets them into traffic, they get lost and once he gets goal side, he's unbeatable."
