THERE will be no AFL-sanctioned after-party following Monday night's Brownlow medal count at Crown Casino.

The League said the official event has been scrapped because nearly seven hours of partying is enough.

"The function runs from just after five when guests start arriving, until midnight. That makes it the longest function we run and we feel that length of time's appropriate," AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said.

More than 1000 guests, including players, partners, club officials, League greats and sponsors will attend the lavish ceremony, but the tradition of 'kicking on' has been scrapped, at least in an official sense.

Once proceedings conclude, guests leaving the function will be told they can move on to Crown's West End precinct if they'd like to continue drinking responsibly.

Crown Casino said it didn't initiate the decision.

"Crown has number of venues that are open for guests. If they want to continue on after the Brownlow finishes, they're more than welcome to go to any of the venues that are still open," Crown spokesman Gary O'Neill said.
