A WINDOW of opportunity beckons in the next six weeks, but Luke Power says the Brisbane Lions must shut it firm behind them if they are to forge ahead and play in the finals for the first time since 2004.

The sixth-placed Lions meet bottom-of-the-table Melbourne at the MCG next week, then enter the mid-season bye weekend before playing Essendon, West Coast, Richmond and North Melbourne in successive weeks.

Those four opponents also sit below the Lions on the ladder, but Power is aware other clubs will be eyeing off similar opportunities.

"It’s an opportunity for everyone and there are a lot of clubs around the mark. We have to win those games and we can’t just turn up and expect to do that," Power said.

"Whether or not we win these next few games could decide whether we’ll be a top-six side or top-10 side.

"Melbourne will be really tough at the MCG next week and we’ve got to go down there and do the things we did well (against Adelaide)."

The Lions’ 13-point Saturday night win over the Crows was notable for a number of features – a goal-a-minute three-minute burst to start the last quarter, a brilliant second-half midfield display by Jared Brennan and an exceptional career-high 40-possession performance by Power himself.

Among all Lions, only Travis Johnstone has accumulated more in a game – while playing for former club Melbourne – but Power was characteristically modest post game.

"I could probably have hit up (Jonathan Brown) a few more times – I reckon I missed him a couple of times," Power said.

"If I’d managed to do that, we could have had a few more goals, but the players around me looked after me pretty well tonight and got the ball in my hands.

"I thought it was a pretty even team performance and the backs were terrific in the second half, especially Joel Patfull with some of his spoils on Brett Burton.

"They really contested every inch."

While Power was keen to talk down his own contribution, he was effusive in his praise of the Lions’ attitude and the impact of Brennan.

"It was shocking travelling back from Melbourne last week after losing by 60 points (to the Bulldogs). It wasn’t an honourable loss at all," he said.

"It’s a credit to the players and a credit to the staff that we picked up and focused on Adelaide and what had to do against them. I thought we executed it pretty well.

"Jared was terrific. He went back (in the last quarter) and took a couple of really telling marks and he also ran well forward and kicked a great goal at an important time.

"Some of his plays tonight were as important as you’d see in any game. It’s a massive credit to the way he’s trained and worked this year."
