FORMER Tassie Devils VFL coach, Brendon Bolton, has been appointed coach of Hawthorn's VFL affiliate, the Box Hill Hawks, for 2009.

And the Hawks have appointed former Essendon player David Flood as a development coach.

Bolton coached North Hobart to a Tasmanian Southern Football League premiership in 2003, and in 2008 was senior coach at Clarence.

"I was looking to coach at a higher level and Box Hill is a club that is looking to the future and has great support by its AFL affiliate Hawthorn," he said on Thursday.

"I am looking forward to implementing my own strategies at Box Hill and learning from the coaching panel at Hawthorn as I continue to develop.

"I am a life-long learner and am happy to be working with Hawthorn senior coach Alastair Clarkson and continuing to challenge the way things should be done.

"The Box Hill Hawks have a strong local following and their performances towards the end of last season where they won around six of their last 10 games showed that they can again be a successful club."

Flood played 54 games for Essendon from 1986-94, and was a development coach with the Bombers from 1999-2003 before taking on the role as senior coach of the Coburg Tigers in the VFL in 2004-2005.

For the past two years he has coached the Calder Cannons in the TAC Cup.
