Hi again kids

You might remember that last week I wrote about out Community Camp starting in Townsville.

The camp is just one of a number of responsibilities that we players have to working with the community.

We are committed to doing a set number of hours of appearances at places like schools and junior footy clubs during the year, which is great grounding for keeping in touch with the game’s grass roots.

We do school visits and ‘Pie Nights’ each season around south-east Queensland, so keep an eye out for us at your club or school sometime around the middle of the year.

One of the things that struck me on our visit to three different schools in Townsville last Thursday was just how much the kids there knew about AFL.

Maybe kids are getting smarter these days by researching their favourite sports on websites, like ours right here at lions.com.au

When we go into schools, it is not just to publicise the club. We like to try and make an impact on all the kids we meet, and talk about leading positive, healthy lifestyles.

The footy clinics that we attend tend to have more of an emphasis on skills and fun.

The club also organizes superclinics during school holidays which many of our players attend, so there are heaps of chances to catch up with Lions.

Our Victorian members don’t miss out either, and we’re looking forward to catching up with them at our pre-season family day at the Manningham Club from 10am-midday on Saturday week (February 23).

We play our first pre-season competition at Carrara on the Gold Coast this Saturday, so if you live on the Coast, make sure you come on down to have a look.

I know there are always heaps of kids on the ground afterwards having a kick-to-kick, just to top off their night.

If you can’t make it, don’t forget that our game will be live on Channel Ten from 7.30pm in Queensland and 8.30pm in Victoria, so make sure you cheer us on.

Catch you next week.
