The Kangaroos were within 15 points of their more fancied opponents during the third term, but were overwhelmed in the final term as the Bulldogs booted nine goals to blow the final margin out to 71 points.
“It’s an extremely disappointing way to finish off what was a competitive game,” Scott said.
“Our guys just got taught a real lesson in terms of work rate.
“The Bulldogs were able to sustain their effort for the whole game and the end result, a 70-odd point loss, was reflective of probably the last 40 minutes of footy, certainly not the footy that was played before that.
“But as I said to the guys, the game goes for 120 minutes, not for 80.”
Scott’s mood lightened a little when he was asked about the interchange infringement that handed the Bulldogs a shot at goal during the second quarter.
“I shouldn’t laugh about it,” Scott said with a chuckle.
“But I just said Ben Speight, ‘I want you to go onto half-forward’, and he ran on - that's a lesson I can learn about coaching from the bench.
“It was comical. He’s a second-game player, but we’ll learn from that, and I will too.”
After losing small forward Matt Campbell to a calf injury shortly before the match, Scott said he hoped his injury-hit team will regain some key players for its clash with Fremantle next Saturday.
“We’ve got a six-day break, but if Matty Campbell’s injury is not as bad as we think it is, hopefully we get him back,” he said.
“Daniel Wells (quad), we’d love have him back; Nathan Grima (quad); Daniel Pratt (hamstring) - there are four players, instantly, that are certainly in line for next week.
“We’d like to bolster the maturity of our group, because at the moment it’s looking fairly young.”
