Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said it didn’t look good for the youngster - who was celebrating his 21st birthday the same day.
“We’ll have to wait and see what the result of the scan is but it doesn’t look good for Musto,” Clarkson told the media after the match.
“He’s a terrific lad and he’s worked really, really hard and we’ll do whatever we can if it’s a bad one to give him the support that he needs.
“Fingers crossed it will just be a wrench rather than a bad one.”
Clarkson was left rueing a bad start and bad finish to the match by his side, giving up the first four goals of the game and the last three. In between, the Hawks outscored the Crows and played some exciting footy.
“We didn’t start the game well,” Clarkson admitted. “The Crows jumped us - but they jumped us in (last year’s AFL) Elimination Final too and we reeled them in.
“We played a pretty exciting brand of footy at different stages. Both sides had a genuine crack.
“We placed a lot of pressure on Adelaide and forced them into a lot of errors and they did the same to us. There was a lot of handball which suggests there was good pressure by both sides.
“We didn’t play at our best tonight, but we’ve come to Adelaide before and been absolutely annihilated by Adelaide – we’re bridging the gap. Slowly but surely we’re bridging the gap.
“They are a very, very polished outfit and they’ll be hard to beat again this year.
“They’ll be making the eight again for sure.”
Despite the loss Clarkson was upbeat about his side’s pre-season campaign.
“We’re pretty pleased with our hitout. We’ve had a really good pre-season and three really good hitouts [in the NAB Cup]. We’ve played a lot of kids and we’ve put a lot of game condition into our players as well,” he said.
“We play Collingwood at Shepparton next week and we’ll just fine-tune our side again. (Jarryd) Roughhead, (Brad) Sewell, (Trent) Croad, (Brent) Guerra, (Rick) Ladson, (Stuart) Dew all had their first hitouts really tonight.
“They’re going to really benefit.”
Clarkson was also enthused about the progress of many of the club’s juniors, with Cameron Stokes and Cyril Rioli looking particularly exciting, and sharing three goals between them.
“They were [exciting],” Clarkson said.
“We’ve been really pleased with the progress of those two over the summer, but also (Xavier) Ellis, (Travis) Tuck, (Beau) Muston … they have had an opportunity and stepped up and all done some good things.”
