"I think that's fair," Pickering told Gillette AFL Trade Radio on Thursday afternoon.
"I do think that's fair. Now West Coast don't think that's fair, so that's okay.
"But I would've thought Cripps and pick 25 for Mitch would probably be fair and reasonable.
"But that what's on the table, and at the moment they're not going to take it.
"It's really up to the two clubs to have a go at it, I guess, and see if they can work through it."
Pickering is unsure if West Coast's list management team, which is led by Craig Vozzo and Neale Daniher, will change its mind before Friday's 2pm deadline for trades to be completed.
"They're still saying he's required and he's contracted," Pickering said.
"They're pretty adamant that they're not going to do anything, so maybe that's where it finishes.
"Obviously (Mitch) would love to get to St Kilda. But if it doesn't happen, he knows he's contracted to the West Coast Eagles for another 12 months."
Cripps, who was St Kilda's first pick (No.24) in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, is keen to return home to Western Australia, and the Eagles want to recruit him.
But the Saints' desire to do a deal involving Cripps and Brown has been continually rejected by West Coast since the trade period began.
