MELBOURNE duo Ricky Petterd and John Meesen recently visited the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre and met some of the kids who will be participating in the Melbourne Marathon on October 10.

The Cerebral Palsy Education Centre is the official charity of the St. George Melbourne Marathon Festival, which has six different events on the day, catering for people of all ages and abilities.

Melbourne great Ron Barassi has also been a great supporter of CPEC and the event.

Supporters can join Ron and other CPEC supporters to run, walk or volunteer on the day, helping CPEC kids live a more fulfilling life.

It is also an important way for runners/walkers in the events to fundraise for us.

CPEC’s participation is really important because it helps achieve extraordinary outcomes for babies and young children who have cerebral palsy.

It costs around $1.7 million this year to deliver the high quality education programs for our 100 children. CPEC receives about $450,000 from the State Government. All donations and financial support is greatly appreciated, as it helps keep family fees down.

CPEC has provided specialist education learning programs for children with cerebral palsy and like disabilities since 1987.

The learning programs are a unique partnership between the child, the parent and the therapists so that what the children learn at CPEC can be applied in their everyday life.

The teaching and learning philosophy of CPEC has enabled many children to live a more fulfilled life where they have learned significant skills to communicate even when they are unable speak, or have become able to stand, step or walk to become more independent.
