Johnson missed the Cats' 66-point win over North Melbourne at Skilled Stadium on Saturday due to a shoulder problem, while the skipper was sidelined by hamstring soreness.
Both players looked fit and moved freely during the early stages of Geelong's main training hit-out for the week on Tuesday morning.
"[Ling] had a hamstring strain in the pre-season that was significant," Cats coach Chris Scott said before the session.
"The previous fortnight he'd been getting a little bit tight and sore, so [him not playing against the Kangaroos] was largely precautionary.
"Assuming he can run full pace and get through the session, he'll be fine."
Johnson has been troubled by a sore shoulder for more than a month.
"At a stretch he probably could've played on the weekend, but … that shoulder needed to improve at some stage and we're confident the extended break has done that," Scott said.
Ruckman Brad Ottens was subbed off at half-time of the win over North Melbourne after suffering what the coach described as "general soreness".
While some doubt remains over his availability for the big game against the Magpies, he's almost certain to play.
"He's about 80 percent," was Scott's summation. "We expect him to be ok."
Collingwood has suggested its number one big man Darren Jolly will miss the game due to a knee injury, meaning Cameron Wood is likely to do battle with Ottens in the ruck.
As they did on Saturday against the Kangaroos, Tom Hawkins and Cameron Mooney, who has himself struggled with a knee problem this season, will provide relief for Ottens when required.
"Cam was pretty good on the weekend," Scott said. "He's not in the shape that he'll be in later in the year, but he's probably symbolic of the rest of our team and our club.
"What happens this week will be very little reflection on what happens later on in the year.
"He's a really important part of our plans."
