Dear members,
Another good trip to Tassie for the team and all our supporters.
Right around the ground, the mighty brown and gold was obvious to all, so to those who travelled and to our Tasmanian members who came to the game - many thanks.
Our last game in Tasmania is against North Melbourne on Sunday 7 August, so I hope to see you all then.
The new stand is almost complete, and 600-700 members were the first on Saturday to sample the comfort and wonderful views from the stand.
The team earned the four points on Saturday in what was a scrappy game, but saw again some wonderful individual efforts. The win now puts us at 11 wins and four losses, and secures our position in the four for another week.
Not a bad effort when you consider the injuries we have had to confront this season.
We don’t use injuries as an excuse at Hawthorn; they just increase our determination to succeed.
Each week is another contest, and nothing is guaranteed in this game, so we have to keep working hard to achieve our goal.
We now have a bye this weekend, and it has come at an opportunistic time with so many of our players recovering from those injuries.
The week’s break will suit us well, and for our game against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday 24 July we will see the coaches having several players returning for selection consideration - Bateman, Rioli, Sewell, Schoenmakers, and Lewis, who is returning from suspension.
Our younger players have not only gained valuable experience over the last few weeks, they have contributed so well, and we remain in contention for a top four finish.
But with seven games to play, we need to win at least another four games to achieve that outcome, so I can only appeal to you all to clear your diaries so we can attend each match to support our coaches and players at each game.
So I look forward to seeing you all at the MCG. The dream is still alive but there is a great deal of work to do.
Stay well and go Hawks.
