The Brisbane Lions submitted their first playing list lodgement to the AFL for Season 2008 by the Wednesday 31 October deadline with the following alterations from their 2007 playing list:

Retirements:

3 – Michael Voss (v+) veteran outside the list of 38
22 – Chris Scott

Delistings:
4 – Ben Fixter
42 – Marcus Allan
27 – Pat Garner

Because Pat Garner has been on the Lions’ senior list for three years since being drafted in 2004, the AFL rules state that he will have to go through the National Draft and Rookie Draft where the club will be able to pick him up and place him on the Rookie List while he recovers from two consecutive knee reconstructions.

Rookie List changes:
18 – Anthony Corrie – elevated to the Senior List
41 – Scott Clouston – retained on second year rookie contract
45 – Daniel Dzufer – retained on second year rookie contract
38 – Haydn Kiel – retained on second year rookie contract
47 – Joel Tippett – retained on second year rookie contract
40 – Will Hamill – currently uncontracted

AFL Trade Week Senior List alterations:
Travis Johnstone – from Melbourne AFC in return for pick No. 14 in the National Draft
31 – Cameron Wood – to Collingwood AFC for pick No. 14 in the National Draft
14 – Richard Hadley – to Carlton AFC for their fourth round pick No. 52 in the National Draft

AFL National Draft Picks:
The Brisbane Lions have five picks available in the November Draft: No’s 8, 25, 41, 51 and 55.

The Lions did not nominate any father / son selections in their first list lodgement.

The Brisbane Lions AFC would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Marcus Allan and Ben Fixter for their professional services and strong efforts for the club and to wish them well with their future careers. We also wish good luck to ruckman Cameron Wood and utility Richard Hadley with their new clubs down in Melbourne.

The Club would also like to repeat its congratulations on the superb multi-award and premiership winning careers of retirees Michael Voss (289 games), Chris Johnson (264 games) and Chris Scott (215 games) over a combined total of 768 AFL matches spanning 15 years.

The Lions will evaluate a permanent Rookie List elevation to the Senior List for 2007 Rookie of the Year club winner and third year International Rookie Colm Begley in March 2008.
