After toppling Hawthorn by 30 points at Subiaco Oval in one of the club’s great wins, Fremantle will now meet a Geelong side still seething from its qualifying final loss to St Kilda.
Fremantle hasn’t played at the MCG since late last season and its last win at the venue came in round four, 2007, against Melbourne.
Regardless, Mundy said the inexperienced group would march into the second week of the finals with no fear.
“We understand how we play football and how we want the game to be played, and we understand our strengths,” the prolific onballer told afl.com.au after a stellar 25-possession game.
“Geelong will obviously want to bounce back after last night and it’s going to be a massive game.
“[We’ll have] no fear.
“It’s going to be a tough one, but I’m glad it’s on the MCG - it’ll be good to get on there this year.”
Mundy, who had 10 contested possessions, six clearances and a goal against the Hawks, was a star on Saturday, vying for best-on-ground honours with Adam McPhee and Luke McPharlin.
The clearance specialist said he was surprised at the lack of support for Fremantle leading into the elimination final.
“Noone was picking us and the bookies were against us … I was a bit baffled,” he said.
“To win a home final is a massive step forward for this young group, so it’s great.”
Mundy was one of just nine Fremantle players on Saturday with finals experience, with the side fielding 10 players in their first or second seasons.
He said it was that young group that had been responsible for the side’s rise up the ladder this year.
“The young guys coming on have been terrific and we have 10 or 11 of them in our side each week,” he said.
“It’s taken a lot of pressure off the older players like Spider (Aaron Sandilands), Pav and Luke McPharlin down back.
“If you had told me at the start of the year that we’d have a final at home and win it, I would have laughed at you, along with a lot of people.
“We’ve really battled since ’06 and hopefully we can get some sustained success now.”
