ADELAIDE football manager Phil Harper has indicated the club will only use two picks (14 and 61) in next month's NAB AFL Draft, saying it will fill most of the remaining spots on the senior list with current rookie-listed players.

The Crows have made nine changes to their team from last season.

Star veterans Simon Goodwin, Andrew McLeod, Brett Burton, Tyson Edwards and Trent Hentschel have all retired.

Nathan Bock (Gold Coast) and Jon Griffin (Fremantle) have found homes at other clubs, while Jarrhan Jacky was delisted.

Adelaide covered off three of those vacant positions by recruiting Carlton ruckman Sam Jacobs and Richmond onballer Richard Tambling during the exchange period and promoting promising forward Ricky Henderson to the senior list.

Rookie-listed players Matthew Jaensch and Chris Schmidt also impressed in their outings for the Crows last season, while Luke Thompson, Aiden Riley and Matthew Wright made solid progress in the SANFL.

All six existing rookies, with the exception of international signing Brian Donnelly who has returned to Ireland, have been offered contracts with the club next season and Harper said at least two more would be elevated to the senior list.

"We're comfortable having just the two [draft] picks. We haven't had a lot of positives come out of the year, but the best thing that happened out of this year was the form of our rookie-listed players," Harper said.

"We've had six, who we want to stay on next year either as being re-rookied or going onto our senior list. Three of those six will be upgraded, so that gave us the flexibility to use some of our draft picks to trade in some needs and that's exactly what we did."

Adelaide has stocked up on key-position players and mid-sized utilities in recent drafts, bringing in the likes of NAB Rising Star nominee Phil Davis and fancied defender Daniel Talia.

The Crows have already indicated they need midfield talent to replace Goodwin, Edwards and McLeod and Harper said there was a fair chance the club would use its first-round pick to secure a gun onballer.

"[Recruiting manager] Matt Rendell has a list of about 14 players, who he thinks are all really good players and that's why we were hesitant to move our pick No.14 out to pick No.18 [in trade week] because you might miss out on getting one of those jets," Harper said.

"We're really confident we'll get a really good player at 14 and Matt's got a full list [and thinks that] at pick 61 we'll still get a reasonable player.

"If Sam Day or someone like that was still there at pick No.14 we might not go for the midfielder. We'll pick the best available player, but that's probably more likely than less likely [to be a midfielder]."
