ST KILDA is confident of rebounding from last week’s fade-out against the Western Bulldogs to upset flag-holder Geelong in Saturday’s round four clash.
Wingman Leigh Montagna said the Cats were “beatable”, and his side had learned from bottom side Melbourne’s resilient display at Skilled Stadium last week.
“We had a look at some of the things that Melbourne did to keep themselves in the game for a long period of time and we’ve addressed those issues,” Montagna said.
“We’ve looked at [the Cats] as a whole and some areas where we think we can exploit them, and if we bring an A-grade effort at the weekend and do things right and use the ball well, hopefully it will give us a good chance of winning.
“We’re going to go in confident and we can’t see any reason why… if the midfield gets in first and get their hands on the ball and give good supply to the forwards and our defenders hold up … there’s no reason why we can’t beat them.”
The Saints beat Geelong in February on their way to winning the 2008 NAB Cup, but both sides fielded B-teams, with Geelong missing skipper Tom Harley and five of its nine All-Australians, and the Saints starting without co-captains Nick Riewoldt and Lenny Hayes, plus Matt Maguire, Luke Ball and Robert Harvey.
