The Tigers in Community Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization that provides a range of services and community based activities in Metropolitan Melbourne.

The Foundation spent 12 months consulting with the local community on its needs and areas of concern and through this consultation process there have been several pilot programs developed to strengthen local communities and to promote healthy lifestyles.

Richmond uses its greatest assets – its players and its people – to support the activities of the Foundation. These include the North Richmond Housing Estate, St Mary’s House of Welcome, Collingwood Estate Youth Space, Very Special Kids as well as numerous hospital visits and special requests over the course of the year. Unique in their own way, each project has shown those involved what giving up a little of their time can do to brighten up the lives of those less fortunate then themselves.

The functions of the Foundation include:

1. the provision of additional social services to communities in need and to enhance existing social programs within these communities;

2. increasing participation and promotion of healthy lifestyles and the importance of sport and exercise;

3. training young people in leadership skills;

4. creating pride among multicultural communities by celebrating cultural diversity and building a social capital;

5. identifying, creating and implementing programs designed to develop the social, educational and physical qualities of children and young adults;

6. implementing education programs focusing on social inclusion for all.

The Tigers in Community Foundation not only draws strength from the players and administration and volunteer staff but also from key stakeholders such as the AFL, the City of Yarra, North Richmond Tenants Association and the North Richmond Community Health Centre.
