TRAVIS Johnstone has joined the Brisbane Lions' seemingly ever-expanding injury list with the onballer ruled out of Sunday's clash against the Hawks with a back strain.

Josh Drummond (calf) is the other casualty from the side defeated by Carlton last Saturday night with the important defender ruled out earlier in the week.

Daniel Merrett was included in the initial squad published on Thursday night, but has been unable to shake the ankle injury that has kept him sidelined since round eight.

The Lions injury list now contains 14 players with the absence of players of the calibre of Joel Patfull, Jamie Charman and Matthew Leuenberger making Michael Voss' job of making the finals in his first year all the more difficult.

Youngsters Aaron Cornelius, Jack Redden and Tom Rockliff make up the emergency list.

Hawthorn regains Campbell Brown and Tom Murphy for the Aurora Stadium match, but loses Cyril Rioli (hamstring) and Liam Shiels (illness).

Jarryd Morton, Beau Dowler and Josh Kennedy are the emergencies.

Adelaide has settled on just the one change for Sunday's clash against the Kangaroos at AAMI Stadium.

Simon Goodwin was ruled out of the side on Thursday after failing to shake a knee injury he picked up during the win over Essendon with Brent Reilly brought in to replace him.

Goodwin, 32, did not take any part in the second half of last week's match after suffering the injury, but is expected to resume after the break.

Jared Petrenko, James Sellar and Tony Armstrong are the emergencies.

Injury-hit North Melbourne has handed Cruize Garlett his debut with the youngster one of four changes to the side defeated by St Kilda.

Daniel Wells (hip/groin), Sam Wright (knee), Ben Warren (cheekbone) and Matt Campbell (hamstring) have been unable to back up after the match that saw the Roos with 17 fit players for a large portion of the final term.

Jack Ziebell, Lachie Hansen and Corey Jones get their chance this week with Daniel Harris, Levi Greenwood and Michael Wundke on the emergency list.
