SYDNEY Swans defender Tadhg Kennelly says the momentum is swinging in favour of his team as it looks ahead to Saturday night's blockbuster with Geelong at ANZ Stadium.

"Last week we just wanted to get that win and get that confidence up to give us that momentum going in so we can play like we did against Geelong early in the season," Kennelly said on Thursday.

Last week's thrilling four-point comeback victory over Fremantle ended a mini-slump which saw the Swans lose four of five matches.

And with Adam Goodes' eight goals in the forward line, it's given the club a lift exactly when needed.

"The match was a good start for us to get our confidence back and get back to playing the way we want to play. It's important to play a consistent game against a team like Geelong," Kennelly said.

The Swans played Geelong in round five and although they were defeated by 42 points, Kennelly is keen to focus on the positives of a game that got away only in the last 10 minutes.

"We played well for three quarters last time we played them, and then Gary Ablett blew us out of the water in the last quarter," he said.

"Realistically, we've all got to play well to win. But it does give you confidence that we can go with them. We were missing a few (players in round five)."

Kennelly added that his troublesome shoulder was now "sweet" after popping out against Hawthorn a month ago. And he was hopeful of a large turnout at ANZ Stadium, noting that the bigger crowd there could be like a 19th man.

"Hopefully if we can get the crowd behind our backs; it's a great stadium for it. Geelong have been the form team of the last two years and it's a good chance to test yourself ahead of the finals against a champion team."

As for match-ups, Kennelly was quizzed on whether he'd start on Gary Ablett.

"I leave that to somebody else," he said with a smile. "I'll have sleepless nights worrying about Gary."
