JACK Trengove from Melbourne is the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee for round five.
Trengove was a standout as the Demons scored their third successive victory in an upset over the undefeated Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday night.
In a best-on-ground performance, the 18-year-old gathered a career-high 24 disposals, including six marks, four tackles and two goals to lead the Demons to a 50-point win.
Trengove has played all five matches this season after making his debut against Hawthorn in round one. He has averaged 20 possessions and is ranked sixth overall at the club for both disposals and tackles.
The season has been one of contrasts for the Demons - belted by the Hawks in round one, they lost by a point to the Magpies in round two, and since then they have beaten Adelaide, Richmond and the Brisbane Lions to sit ninth.
Trengove said the opportunity to play senior football had been terrific for his development.
"It's great to be recognised as the rising star nomination for this round," he said at Junction Oval on Tuesday afternoon.
"It's been great - I'm learning a lot playing in the senior side, and we're doing pretty well at the moment, so it's been a great experience.
"It definitely helps when the team's playing well and we really did play well against Brisbane on the weekend.
"We gained a lot of confidence out of the [round two] result against Collingwood - even though we did lose to them we had plenty of chances to win."
Originally from Kybybolite Football Club in South Australia, Trengove was selected by Melbourne with pick two in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft after an impressive year where he was named All-Australian at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and South Australia's most valuable player.
Trengove is Melbourne's first rising star nominee for 2010 and the club's sixth nominee since the 2008 season.
