The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has assessed the following incidents from the weekend's round of matches.
Jobe Watson, Essendon, has been charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with umpire Matthew Head during the first quarter of the Round 16 match between Essendon and Richmond, played at the MCG on Saturday July 18, 2008.
A first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $2600 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $1950 sanction.
Justin Koschitzke, St Kilda, has been charged with a Level Two striking offence against Michael Osborne, Hawthorn, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between St Kilda and Hawthorn, played at Telstra Dome on Saturday July 19, 2008.
In summary, his previous poor record means that his one-game sanction cannot be reduced with an early plea.
The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of five activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level Two offence, drawing 125 demerit points and a one-match sanction. He has an existing poor record of one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 137.50 points. He also has 68.75 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 206.25 points and a two-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 154.69 points and a one-match sanction.
Aaron Fiora, St Kilda, has been charged with a Level One striking offence against Michael Osborne, Hawthorn, during the second quarter of the Round 16 match between St Kilda and Hawthorn, played at Telstra Dome on Saturday July 19, 2008.
In summary, his previous good record means he can accept a reprimand and 40 points towards his future record.
The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand. He has an existing five-year good record, which reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 60 demerit points and a reprimand. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 40 points towards his future record.
Jarrad McVeigh, Sydney Swans, has been charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with umpire Ray Chamberlain during the third quarter of the Round 16 match between the Sydney Swans and Carlton, played at the Telstra Dome on Sunday July 20, 2008.
A first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $2600 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $1950 sanction.
Other Incidents Assessed:
- Contact between the Western Bulldogs' Ben Hudson and Geelong's Jimmy Bartel from the first quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel that Hudson stuck his foot out but retracted it to ensure there was no trip of the Geelong player. No further action was taken.
- Contact between Essendon's Kyle Reimers and Richmond's Dean Polo from the third quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the impact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
- Contact between Hawthorn's Luke Hodge and St Kilda's Luke Ball from the fourth quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. Hodge had his eyes on the ball at all times and the incident was seen as a legitimate attempt to spoil by the panel. No further action was taken.
- Contact between the Brisbane Lions' Jamie Charman and West Coast's Dean Cox from the first quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the impact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was required.
- Contact between the Brisbane Lions' Mitch Clark and West Coast's Brent Staker from the third quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel the impact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was required.
- Contact between Adelaide's Kurt Tippett and Port Adelaide's Justin Westhoff from the second quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. Tippett had his eyes on the ball at all times and the incident was seen as a legitimate attempt to spoil. No further action was taken.
- Contact between Port Adelaide's Adam Thomson and Adelaide's Kris Massie from the third quarter of Sunday's match was assessed. It was the view of the panel that Thomson's arm came across Massie's abdomen at the same time that Port Adelaide's Daniel Motlop made contact with Massie's back. Thomson's fist did not make contact with Massie. On the available video evidence, the contact made was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
