THERE will be a Bews at Geelong, a Buckley at Carlton and a Mitchell in the red and white again.

Geelong has secured former captain Andrew Bews' son, Jed, as a father-son selection, while Carlton snapped up Dylan Buckley, the son of triple premiership hero, Jim. Both the Cats and Carlton will use their last selection in the national draft to add the famous surnames to their lists.

After Fremantle put in an early bid for Barry Mitchell's son, Tom, the Swans were forced to use their first round draft pick to obtain the highly rated midfielder.

The AFL system allows all clubs to bid a draft pick for players that are eligible as father-son picks. If the club that the player qualifies to play with then wants to select him, they must match the bid of the rival club. No other club made a bid for Bews or Buckley.

Jed Bews' father Andrew played 207 games with Geelong from 1982-1993, captaining the club for two seasons. Andrew represented Victoria 12 times and played in the 1989 grand final.

Jed Bews played three VFL games with the Cats this season and has spent the past two years with Geelong in the TAC Cup, kicking four goals in 26 games.

Jim Buckley, a famous member of the Carlton 'mosquito fleet',  played in Blues premierships in 1979, '81 and '82.

He said after the deal was done he was very proud and Jed's mother would be "obviously relieved".

"Fantastic result. It's been a long time coming... Dylan always wanted to play for Carlton... he lived on the back door-step of the ground," Jim said.

"He'll give it his best shot, there's no doubt about that."
