The Sydney Swans have made three team changes from last year's Grand Final.

Peter 'Spida' Everitt will make his debut in the red and white, energetic forward Simon Phillips will play his fifth senior game, Luke Vogels his 15th, while Luke Ablett is a surprise inclusion.

Ablett suffered a back related hamstring injury in the early minutes of the 2006 decider and appeared a long way off playing only six weeks ago, but he worked on his core stability which rectified the long-term problem.

The result has seen him training pain free and his ability to keep training helped his fitness levels to the point where he needed just one practice game to prove he would be right for the season opener.

Coach Paul Roos hopes his team balance will have them in front at the final siren.

"Spida and Lukey Vogels give us some height while Flipper (Phillips) can provide a spark around the ground," Roos told sydneyswans.com.au.

"Both Lukey and Flipper have been in good form in the pre-season and deserve their spot."
