The Hawthorn FC social club farewell was held on Thursday 16 August at the Crimmins Room at Linda Crescent, Hawthorn.

Thursday nights at the Hawthorn Social Club were the heart and soul of the footy club. It was a place for people to meet after watching the team train, it was where the victories were celebrated and the defeats were dissected and that question.
More than 250 of the brown and gold met in the Crimmins Room and were welcomed by Club President Jeff Kennett and Chief Executive Ian Robson. It was almost like the Thursday nights of old so many familiar faces, the committed club members. The noise, the happy laughter, the comradeship all that stuff that made the Social Club the place to be for the dedicated Hawks.
Former Social Club President Brian Albiston delivered a moving speech of what the Social Club meant to him. Brian led the members in the last rousing version of the club song to be sung at Glenferrie. Joining in with former players, officials and supporters was Club great Gary Ayres. To have the ‘Conan’ back in our midst was a sobering reminder of just how good we had it during those helicon years of the late 1960’s to the mid 1990’s.
The Club has moved to a new home at Waverley Park, it is a new era, the young Hawks on the playing field excites us all and the old spirit of the Social Club can be heard supporting the team each match day. A new site for a social club is under consideration.
