WESTERN Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade will enter the second half of the season a happy man with his side exceeding expectations in the opening 13 rounds.

After the Bulldogs' 11th win of the year, against Collingwood last weekend, Eade said the focus for his group is now top four and is more than pleased with how the first half of the season has transpired.

"I don't think any side after 13 rounds would have thought they'd win 11 games," he told westernbulldogs.com.au.

"I would have thought we've exceeded all teams' expectations in this situation.

"We've won a couple of close ones and some things have gone our way, but you take your chances while you can and it's now forgetting about what the scoreline is and just concentrating on the next nine weeks."

He also said it was exciting to be in a position where a top-four finish is the primary goal.

"The last nine games … we're assured of a spot in the eight so now we can turn our sights to a bit higher," he said.

"It's exciting. The start of the season was all about making the eight and to achieve that this early is a real plus.

"We'll keep the guys focused on achieving and ensure they're not content where they are, and that they need to keep pressing on and we need to keep improving."

Eade said the club understands its run to the finals is punctuated with tough assignments, given the Dogs are set to travel another four times (starting with Darwin this week) and also meet Geelong and North Melbourne.

However, he said the players are not daunted by road trips, having already won at the SCG, Subiaco and Aurora Stadium this year.

"I think the guys have got pretty good confidence going interstate. We've always done well at the Gabba, we don't mind playing in Perth," he said.

"As far as travelling, it's not an issue for us. We do it more than other Victorian teams, so you get used to it a bit.

"Certainly winning the three before now has been a plus for us."

Eade said defender Tom Williams will miss at least one week his shoulder injury and may even sit out round 15 depending on how the joint responds in the coming weeks.

"His shoulder's a bit sore. There's a bit of swelling there, a bit of bruising and bleeding internally," he said.

"He'll certainly miss this week and maybe the one after the bye, but at most he'll miss two.

"He's a strong lad mentally, so he'll push through it."

He also said promising young forward Shaun Higgins, who has been sidelined since round two with an ankle injury, is on track to play for Williamstown in the AFL's round 15.
