HAWTHORN star Lance Franklin says he felt confident that he'd be fit to play in the second semi-final against the Sydney Swans as soon the scans on his injured knee showed his ligaments were intact.

A week after appearing set to miss the rest of the season, Franklin completed a miracle recovery when he kicked four goals in the Hawks' 36-point win at the MCG on Friday night.

"[It was] just a bit of bone bruising and bleeding on the back of the knee, but just icing it up got it right to go," the 24-year-old told Melbourne radio station SEN.

"I knew in my mind I was ready to go and I just did everything possible to get myself up, in terms of recovery and looking after my body.

"I got up for the game and we got the win."

Franklin acknowledged that his knee had caused him some discomfort during the match, but he does not believe it will pose him any problems when the Hawks meet Collingwood in an eagerly-anticipated preliminary final next Friday night.

While Hawthorn will go into the clash as the underdog, Franklin has no doubt the Magpies can be beaten.

"When you make the final, anything can happen," he said.

"It's going to be a great game, on Friday night again, and we're looking forward to it."

The win over the Swans was Hawthorn's first victory in a final since it beat Geelong in the 2008 Grand Final.

Franklin was full of praise of the impact Shaun Burgoyne and Josh Gibson had one the contest.

"Our A-Graders stepped it up tonight," he said.

"Burgoyne was great, and I thought ‘Gibbo’ was super down back.

"I think he had 22 spoils, so that's an unbelievable effort by him. He's calling himself 'Iron Fist' down at the club at the moment.

"He held our backline together. Young [Ryan] Schoenmakers also bounced back and played a good game for us, so it was a good win."
