MELBOURNE is expecting Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown to line up against the Demons on Saturday night.

Brown has been the subject of rumours all week that he is being hampered by a groin injury, but Melbourne coach Dean Bailey said he was planning on the star forward playing.

"They don't miss too many games these blokes. They get themselves up when most may not but that's what makes them superstars of the competition," he said on Friday morning.

The Demons coach said he would send someone out to cast an eye over the Lions' training on Friday afternoon but hadn't received any inside word on Brown.

"I read and see the same things you blokes have," he said.

"When he's saying he's playing I reckon there's a fair chance he will roll out and play."
The Lions have been one of the most impressive teams this year, but Bailey was conscious not to focus to heavily on Brown and Brendan Fevola.

"There is a little bit of information but at the end of the day you've got two outstanding forwards playing the game and if you spend too much time on those you miss (Michael) Rischitelli, what (Jared) Brennan's doing, what (Justin) Sherman's doing on the wing, you miss (Daniel) Rich's kick, you miss (Todd) Banfield's forward pressure, you miss the half-back line of (Andrew) Raines, (Matt) Maguire and (Josh) Drummond as an attacking half-back flanker, and (Ash) McGrath comes in," he said.

"If you take your eyes off it there are another 16 players playing. We've got to be fairly even across the board."

The Demons go in to the game in the rare position of having an unchanged line-up on the back of two consecutive wins.

But Bailey said he there was no chance his players would get too far ahead of themselves.

"You take the attitude that if you do the basics very well then you should be able to compete as long as you can regardless of who you're playing against," he said.

"That's got to be the challenge. We keep going back to the confidence or attitude of the Collingwood game then the Adelaide and Richmond games. A new challenger this week but our attitude and intensity has to be maintained. We cannot afford to drop off. If you drop off against a top four team in Brisbane they will make you pay. The same basics apply regardless of who you play."
