> Watch Tyson Goldsack speak to CTV in the Westpac Centre gym

Magpie defender Tyson Goldsack will clock up his 50th career match in his fourth season at the club when he runs out with side on Saturday afternoon at the MCG.??

Goldsack, 23, has had to work hard in the second half of his career after playing 33 games in his first two seasons.

Coming into the side for an injured Nick Maxwell in round 13, Goldsack played an important role in the big win over St Kilda last week finishing the game with a team-high seven tackles.?

“It’s been a long time coming but it's good to get here,” Goldsack told CTV in the Westpac Centre before Friday’s training.??

“To share it with Johno’s 200th is great and hopefully we get the win.”

“I don’t see it as a massive milestone but it’s a start.  If I can do the same again it will be all right.”

Goldsack, who arrived at the club via overall pick 63 in the 2006 draft, was forced to overcome a serious bout of meningitis at the start of the year, severely hampering his chances of playing senior football.

“At the start of the year I was sick early on between preseason and the start of the season.  My energy levels were very low.??

“It was meningitis.  I was in hospital for four days.  It had to do with fluid in my brain and it’s a virus that knocked me about for a while.  I slept a lot.  I had to work into training slowly.  It was a frustrating slow process especially with the season going on.”??

The defender stated his success against Sydney’s Michael O’Loughlin as a highlight in his developing career.  Goldsack faced off against the former 303 game champion on two occasions in his debut year, holding the forward to one goal in each encounter. ?

“The one that comes to mind is Michael O’Loughlin. We played Sydney a fair bit in my first year and I was always on him.  It was a big task for me.??

“In the weeks leading up to it I set all my focus towards him and I was able to knock him off.”
