'East meets West' as the Lions are now offering a special student ticket package for the upcoming Lions v Melbourne home game on Saturday night 31 July.
This Gabba game will feature a strong Chinese flavour as a preview of the Club's China Tour and Shanghai Showdown AFL exhibition game between these same two sides.
For just $30 students will receive:
- a general reserved ticket to Lions v Melbourne - 7:10pm, Saturday 31 July @ The Gabba
- food voucher
- drink voucher
- a 2-for-1 main meal deal @ nearby Chalk Hotel on Stanley St
- free public transport to and from the game
- the chance to kick your footy on the Gabba field post-game.
Chinese students will also get a bonus Welcome to the AFL pack and access to some free footys for the after-match 'kick-2-kick' to help them gain a greater understanding of Australia's game.
We are also implementing some extra Chinese-themed match-day activities to ensure all students have a great all-round Gabba experience on the night.
Pre-game Gate 2 park activities from 5:30pm (Cnr Main & Stanley Streets)
- AFL first-timers booth: Students can get their photo taken with player cut-outs and receive a copy of the photo in a lanyard as a souvenir to take home from the game.
- Lions marquee decorated with Chinese lanterns: Inside this marquee Chinese students will be greeted by Ambassadors who will explain the main rules of the game in Chinese and present them with their Welcome to the AFL pack.
- Handball targets: Students can have a go at handballing and kicking footys into the targets as a bit of fun before the game.
- Chinese lion dancers will be weaving through the crowds in the park before entering onto the field prior to the start of the game.
There will also be an on-field display from members of Brisbane's Shaolin Kung Fu Guan Performance Team who will amaze and entertain with dynamic performances of skills made famous by China's legendary Shaolin Warrior Monks.
The team will entertain with animal styles of kung fu, Tai Chi and amazing feats of Qi Gong breaking. The team is made up of World, Oceania, Australian and Queensland Champions with the youngest performer being only eight years old.
The Shaolin Kung Fu Guan are the official representatives of the Shaolin Warrior Monks here in Australia. The team will look to inspire and welcome in good luck for the Brisbane Lions with the Chinese Lions commonly seen throughout Chinese New Year that are performed to bring good luck, prosperity and to ward off evil spirits.
A Chinese Ambassador alongside our match-day MC will welcome Chinese students to the game and explain the various activities they can enjoy in Chinese.
All Chinese students will be seated together in Sections 18/19 and will be greeted by Lions mascot Bernie 'Gabba' Vegas and our Chinese Ambassadors.
These ambassadors will then sit amongst the students during the game and explain in Chinese what is happening on the field.
After the game, all students will be invited onto the field to experience all the fun and excitement of the 'kick-2-kick'. During this time, we will teach them some basic AFL skills.
