Again one of the club's strongest performers in pre-season time trials, Bastinac looked set for another big year before tragedy struck.
He landed awkwardly during a training drill in January and underwent surgery to repair lateral meniscal tear in his knee, keeping him out for four months.
His recovery was long but when he eventually made his return against the Gold Coast in round 12, he was quickly back to his best.
The young midfielder collected 25 possessions against the Suns, but his best performance came in round 18 when he racked up 29 possessions and booted two goals against the Lions.
It was always going to be difficult to take big steps forward after an outstanding first year, but the number 28 will be pleased with his output after facing a significant hurdle early in the year.
