WEST COAST coach John Worsfold was not a happy man after his side's four-goal loss to Port Adelaide, despite the fact that the Eagles clawed their way back from 68 points down early in the last term.
The Power stopped as if shot 10 minutes into the final quarter, allowing West Coast to boot the last seven goals and reduce a hiding to a simple loss, but Worsfold wasn't entirely impressed.
"I was a bit disappointed at half time – after a pretty good start, we probably let Port into the game early with a couple of straight turnovers, but hung in there, and in the second quarter we got blown away too easily," he said after the match.
"I asked the players if they really wanted to take the challenge up throughout the whole second half, so I was fairly happy with that.
"We don't put a lot of weight on [the last term comeback] other than some very exciting things [happened]. We have to put it into context, and learn from the whole game, not just the last 20 minutes.
"We'll put things in place to improve, which is our aim – we've certainly got improvement in us, and we've still got players that are struggling with form, but if they're prepared to work at it, they'll turn that around."
Key forward Quinten Lynch kicked two goals after just four in the first four games, and Worsfold admitted the 25-year-old was under pressure, with Ash Hansen seemingly set to be available after missing with a hamstring strain, and Josh Kennedy displaying solid WAFL form.
"Lynchy is certainly not playing like we know he can – he certainly worked hard but didn't have the impact on the game that we need him to,” Worsfold said.
"It's not as though we're giving him chances, but we're expecting him to perform up to expectations. He's been below that, and at some stage, you will have to say is there a player who can come in and potentially offer the team more. And we've certainly got that in the wings with Hansen and Kennedy with two potential options, so we'll weigh that up.
"We'll pick what we think's the best side this week going in – we may show some faith in Quinten, that he can fight through it, or we may say, 'No, now's the time to change that up'."
