The 196cm key forward has signed with GWS under start-up concessions that allow the club to recruit a dozen 17-year-olds born between January and April, 1993.
Cameron, who comes from the small town of Dartmoor in western Victoria, has been selected for the 2011 AIS-AFL Academy program where he will join fellow GWS recruit Jacob Townsend.
GWS high performance manager Alan McConnell said Cameron had huge potential for development, given his limited exposure to elite football programs to date.
The youngster had never seen a live AFL game before he attended the 2010 grand final.
"He's had the challenge of distance living in Dartmoor and playing for the Rebels and has undertaken huge travel strain in the last 12 months. We envisage that living in Sydney will have a huge upside for his development," McConnell said.
"I think he'll handle the move to Sydney really well. He's very popular among his peers and comes from a very grounded family."
Cameron said he was thrilled to have finalised his future with GWS.
"It was really surreal when I started talking to the team at GWS, I mean I hadn't even been to a live AFL match then," he said.
"Towards the latter half of the season this year was when I really started to think this might happen. I knew through Rebels that I fell in the GWS age bracket but I also knew there were a lot of other players that did as well. Luckily I could string a few good games together."
Cameron will move to Sydney in the coming weeks to join the club for its first pre season before taking part in the NAB Cup pre season competition in February.
GWS now boasts a list of 16 signed players: priority 17-year-olds Tim Golds, Sam Darley, Tom Bugg, Dylan Shiel, Adam Treloar, Jack Hombsch and Jeremy Cameron; NSW zone selections Sam Schulz, Mark Whiley, Kurt Aylett, Anthony Miles, Josh Bruce and Jacob Townsend, NT zone selections Curtly Hampton and Shaun Edwards and NRL recruit Israel Folau.
