Carlton Senior Coach Brett Ratten and National Recruiting Manager Wayne Hughes caught up with a number of talented young draft hopefuls in Canberra yesterday, amongst them Northern Knights ruckman Matthew Kreuzer.

Kreuzer joined 79 other potential recruits at the NAB AFL Draft Camp at the Australian Institute of Sport, during which time he completed various tests, club interviews and medical assessments.

Amid all the talk that Carlton will refuse to part with its first selection for Chris Judd and will name Kreuzer as the League’s No.1 number one draftee in November, the modest teenager has been left somewhat embarrassed

“I don’t really look at that because who really knows who is going to go at No. 1? No one knows,” Kreuzer said.

“It really doesn’t bother me much at the moment. I don’t think I will go at No. 1.”

Hughes talked of the Canberra camp as “a great opportunity for ‘Ratts’ to meet Kreuzer and a number of other potential new recruits”.

“We will formally interview 25 players, with interviews involving the Coach, Steven Icke and our Club psychologist. The 25 players involved are in the formal interviews of an evening, but over the course of the camp we will speak to almost all of the players in attendance,” Hughes added.

The Draft Camp ends in Canberra on Friday afternoon, when attention then turns to the exchange period, commencing on Monday, October 8 and concluding at 2pm on Friday, October 12.
