Goals – Moyle 4, Houlihan 3, Murray 2, S Fisher 2, Peckett
Springvale suffered a disappointing three goal loss to Williamstown at Shepley Oval on Sunday.
The Scorpions looked to be in control at three quarter time, trailing by 17 points but kicking with the aid of a very strong breeze that had proved to be decisive for the first three quarters.
Disappointingly the players seemed to play as if the wind would do the work for them and the Seagulls ran out deserved victors.
In his return from injury, Brett Moyle kicked 4 goals and collected 18 possessions in a good first up performance. He was well supported by Josh Houlihan (3 goals, 15 possessions) who looked dangerous every time he had the ball. Sam Fisher gave the team a strong focal point and finished the day with 2 goals.
The backline was solid with Matthew Ferguson (23 possessions, 8 marks) the pick of the bunch. Leigh Montagna, Jason Caples and Brendan Waldron also combined to repel many Williamstown attacks.
Ruckman Nick Stone followed on from his performance in the VFL representative side last weekend to collect 24 possessions and take 8 marks. Justin Peckett and Damian Carroll both worked hard to give the Scorpions first use of the ball out of the centre while Jason Gram used his pace to great effect. Allan Murray also contributed with a couple of early goals.
Next Saturday the Scorpions travel down to Skilled Stadium to take on Geelong in a good opportunity to atone for Sundays disappointing result.
