Mardi Harwood is hardly a veteran of walking the red carpet on Brownlow night.

But the 19-year-old university student did attend last year with her partner of three years Patrick Dangerfield.

Yesterday whilst trying on some amazing creations by South Australian fashion icon Alexis George, Ms Harwood had some re-assuring words of advice for first timer Jessica Holtham, partner of Crows captain Nathan van Berlo.

“Finding the right dress is definitely the hardest part about it,” Ms Harwood said.
“If you are wearing a gorgeous dress which you feel comfortable and beautiful in, then you will feel more confident.

“It’s a nerve-racking entrance stepping onto the red carpet.

“That’s why I am so appreciative that George and his team have been kind enough to help me find the perfect dress for the Brownlow.”

Ms Holtham, aged 23, agrees saying there is no-where else in Adelaide that stocks such exquisite dresses for such a grand occasion.

“I have never worn gowns like this before - I feel like a princess,” Ms Holtham said.
Alexis George co-owner George Georgiou says it is very daunting for some of the young partners to “get it right” for the Brownlow.

“Especially the ones who are going for the first time,” Mr Georgiou said.
“The expectation is that they will have the film star look.”

George and his wife Pat, who launched the inaugural Alexis George collection in August 1980, have been helping to style the wives and partners of Adelaide Crows players for a number of years.

George can remember outfitting a “very pregnant” Maggie Goodwin and her good friend Sarah Ricciuto one year while his boutique resembled a crèche as their children waited patiently for their mums to find the perfect dress.

Van Berlo and Jess Harwood and Dangerfield and Mardi Harwood will be joined on the Adelaide Crows table at the Brownlow by Scott and Ashe Thompson, Rory Sloane and partner Belinda Riverso and Brent Reilly and fiancée Jamie Lee.

The Brownlow medal will be held at Crown in Melbourne on Monday September 26.
