Chris Grant underwent successful surgery last night to remove bone spur from his pubic bone. The problem was uncovered late last week and while initially thinking it would gradually improve, Club surgeon David Young indicated it was best for Grant to undergo surgery on the problem now to ensure the problem is rectified long term with no major interruption.
Club Doctor Gary Zimmerman said “Chris has undergone a simple operation to remove bone spur and fragment from his pubic bone which is interfering with his ability to be able to get back to the level of training required to play football.
“In consultation with the medical staff, Chris has decided to have surgery to remove these bone fragments to enable him to be an active contributor to the side in the second half of the season.
“Bone spurs and bone fragments are one of the factors that can occur from old osteitis pubis which Chris has suffered from for the past few years. He has been getting by but now he is at the stage where it’s causing him significant pain and the operation will rectify this,” said Zimmerman.
The operation will result in Grant missing the next 8 – 10 weeks before resuming playing in the last half of the season.
